Use case
Battery, charge and energy content
Keep mAh, Ah and Wh cleanly apart so that batteries and power banks become comparable.
Working steps
- Bring the charge figure into one consistent unit: mAh or Ah.
- Find the nominal voltage of the battery — without it no energy statement is possible.
- Compute energy in Wh: Ah times volts.
- For power banks also check whether cell capacity or the 5 V output is stated.
- To compare several batteries always put the Wh figures side by side, not the mAh figures.
Checks
- 1 Ah equals 1000 mAh and exactly 3600 coulombs.
- Wh = Ah × volts. Without voltage the conversion is impossible.
- A battery with a smaller mAh figure can hold more energy if its voltage is higher.
