Recipes from English-speaking countries measure by volume, German recipes often by weight. This table shows the customary US cooking measures in millilitres.

The values are US customary measures. A metric cup in German recipes often means 250 ml and a metric tablespoon 15 ml, which differs from the US figures. Dry ingredients such as flour or sugar can only be converted to grams through density; a cup of flour weighs less than a cup of water.
