Acceleration: m/s², g and ft/s²
Acceleration is the change of speed per time. Engineering often states it as a multiple of standard gravity g rather than in m/s².
| m/s² | g | ft/s² |
|---|---|---|
| 0.1 | 0.01019716 g | 0.32808399 ft/s² |
| 0.5 | 0.05098581 g | 1.64041995 ft/s² |
| 1 | 0.10197162 g | 3.2808399 ft/s² |
| 2 | 0.20394324 g | 6.56167979 ft/s² |
| 5 | 0.50985811 g | 16.40419948 ft/s² |
| 9.80665 | 1 g | 32.17404856 ft/s² |
| 10 | 1.01971621 g | 32.80839895 ft/s² |
| 20 | 2.03943243 g | 65.6167979 ft/s² |
Standard gravity is exactly 9.80665 m/s²; it is a definition, not a local measurement. An impact at 20 g means twenty times the Earth acceleration, not 20 m/s². The gal (1 Gal = 0.01 m/s²) is used in geophysics.
