Confusing l/min and m³/h

A flow rate of 10 l/min corresponds to 10 m³/h.

01Assumption

A flow rate of 10 l/min corresponds to 10 m³/h.

02Actually

10 l/min is 0.6 m³/h. In an hour 600 litres flow, and 600 litres is 0.6 cubic metres. The conversion factor is 0.06.

03Why

Both units describe the same thing, just with a different time unit and a different volume measure. Pump and heating datasheets mostly use m³/h, fittings and flow meters l/min. The factors 60 and 1000 act together and are easily applied only halfway.

04Check

Convert the time first, then the volume: l/min times 60 gives l/h, divided by 1000 gives m³/h. For rough estimates divide l/min by 16.67 to get m³/h.
